Ayurveda, meaning ‘knowledge of life’ is the 5000 year old ancient healing system from India that lays down guidelines on how to live a long, happy and healthy life. An Ayurvedic practitioner will give treatment, lifestyle, nutritional, herbal and exercise/relaxation advice best suited to your own individual constitution (known in Sanskrit, the ancient language of India, as Prakruti). This is the unique mix of the three functional humors (doshas): Vata, Pitta and Kapha, which are based on the elements of Air, Fire and Water/Earth respectively. Less suitable life choices and general life stresses can cause imbalance leaving us vulnerable to those ailments and conditions to which we are genetically/constitutionally susceptible. Harmonising more closely with nature and balancing our inherent constitution can improve our health, vitality and happiness.
